Pupils at Holy Trinity C of E Primary School in Stratford recently put their biodiversity knowledge to the test after participating in ‘Eco Buddies’, our free educational programme.

During the session students were able to learn more about the vital role that plants and animals play in keeping our planet healthy and what they can do to promote greater biodiversity. Pupils then teamed up with volunteers from Orbit Homes and teachers to build and decorate their own bird boxes.

The new ‘Eco Buddies’ also got an insight into sustainable construction and how Orbit Homes works to integrate eco-friendly features into its new homes and developments, such as hedgehog highways and bug hotels.

Brian Nearney, Regional Managing Director at Orbit Homes, commented: “We were delighted to join pupils at Holy Trinity C of E Primary School for an exciting Eco Buddies session. It was a fantastic chance for us to help the children further their learning about the environment and show them what they can do to promote greater biodiversity, both at home and at school.

“All the pupils were brilliant at building and decorating their very own bird boxes and we’re very grateful to Holy Trinity C of E Primary School for welcoming us in.”

Rose Cottrell, Science and Geography Lead at Holy Trinity C of E Primary School, said: “Our pupils really enjoy learning about nature so ‘Eco Buddies’ came as a wonderful opportunity for them to broaden their knowledge of the environment and develop their understanding of biodiversity. The students absolutely loved the bird box activity because it gave them the chance to get hands-on with the idea of protecting wildlife. Our pupils are delighted to have become ‘Eco Buddies’ and we’d like to thank Orbit Homes for visiting us.”

Eco Buddies is designed to support students in understanding the importance of nature and how all living things are connected. Free classroom resources are available for schools to download at orbithomes.org.uk/eco-buddies.

Eco Buddies joins Building Buddies, another educational programme from Orbit Homes that allows primary school children to experience hands-on visits to construction sites. Pupils can learn about all the different processes involved in building a brand-new home and how the skills they learn in Maths and English are used daily in a variety of jobs.
