Orbit wins internationally recognised health and safety accolade for the fifth consecutive year

Orbit has scooped a gold health and safety award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for the fifth consecutive year.

We were presented with the RoSPA Gold Medal Award, in recognition of our ongoing commitment to health and safety excellence and dedication to customer safety.

The RoSPA Health and Safety Awards is the largest occupational health and safety awards programme in the UK. Now into its 67th year, the Awards have almost 2,000 entries every year, covering nearly 50 countries and a reach of over seven million employees.  The programme recognises organisations’ commitment to continuous improvement in the prevention of accidents and ill health at work, looking at entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Afzal Ismail, Group Corporate Services Director at Orbit, said: “To achieve our fifth consecutive RoSPA award is a testament to the excellent work of our health and safety and compliance teams, and demonstrates our dedication to deliver customers with a quality service. We are extremely proud to receive this endorsement, it is an outstanding accolade for the organisation and an amazing achievement within the housing association sector.”

Julia Small, RoSPA’s Achievements Director, added: “Accidents at work and work-related ill health don’t just have huge financial implications or cause major disruption – they significantly impact an individual’s quality of life. That’s why good safety performance deserves to be recognised and rewarded. We are thrilled that Orbit has won a RoSPA Award and would like to congratulate them on showing an unwavering commitment to keeping their employees, clients and customers safe from accidental harm and injury.”

In 2021, Orbit Homes became the first affordable housing provider to adopt the RoSPA Safer by Design framework for all future new-build homes. Safer by Design is a framework aimed at reducing more accidental deaths and serious injuries that occur in our own homes each year.
