Local area

Stonham Aspal is a charming, well served village just 7 miles from Stowmarket. The parish dates back to the Roman period, with its former name of Estuna being mentioned in the 1086 Domesday book. With such an interesting history, Stonham Aspal also has plenty to offer its residents, from St Mary & St Lambert church, through to the village hall, football club and Stonham Barns leisure and retail park. This delightful village features all the usual amenities such as a Post Office, boutique shops, a convenience store, a bakery and a primary school, whilst also being home to Suffolk Owl Sanctuary and Mid Suffolk Show Ground.

Just 15 minutes away by car is Stowmarket, here is where you’ll find your larger supermarkets, as well as a mainline railway station, with regular services linking you to Ipswich, Cambridge, Norwich and London Liverpool Street.

The A140 connects Stonham Aspal to the A14, where you can reach the county town of Ipswich in 25 minutes and the historical Bury St Edmunds in just over half an hour. Both towns offer a range of things to do, from watching an Ipswich Town football game, seeing a concert at The Apex, or shopping for luxury goods in the independent boutiques and branded stores of Abbeygate street. The redeveloped Ipswich Marina boasts restaurants, bars and bistros with a cosmopolitan flair to satisfy all tastes, whilst Bury St Edmunds is home to the outstanding Pea Porridge - the only Michelin-starred restaurant in Suffolk.
