Local area

Martham is a charming, rural village with several Georgian houses, a large village green, and two duck ponds. The village is said to date back to Saxon times, with historical findings suggesting the village goes back to Roman times or even earlier. Martham is a well-served village, with three churches, shops, pubs, play and leisure facilities, and a long-established community feel.

The village hosts a number of events such as the Spring Scarecrow Festival and a Summer Carnival, with villagers and visitors all involved in the action. As a part of the Norfolk Broads National Park, Martham is a picturesque village with some of the clearest water in the whole Broads system, reaching up to the Thurne River - a world famous fishing location. For nature lovers, the Martham Broad is run by Norfolk Wildlife Trust and features a range of wildlife such as common cranes, otters, Chinese water deer and more.

Conveniently, just 7.5 miles away is Acle main line railway station, so you can hop on a train and be next to the sea in Great Yarmouth in as little as 13 minutes, or right in the town centre of bustling, Norwich in around 22 minutes.

If you’re in need of a larger supermarket, or a greater range of things to do, you have a choice of coastal Great Yarmouth to the south or Norwich to the west, both just 30 minutes by car.
