Council Leader tours new affordable homes at Orbit Homes’ Pearson Heights in Whitstable
Canterbury City Council Leader, Cllr Alan Baldock, joined Orbit Homes colleagues for a visit to its Pearson Heights development in Whitstable, where 42 new affordable homes are being delivered.
Cllr Baldock was joined by Cllr Pip Hazelton, Canterbury City Council’s cabinet member for housing, for a tour of the development to see how Orbit Homes is supporting the delivery of new affordable homes locally.
The tour included the Councillors viewing new homes available for Shared Ownership and affordable rent. Cllr Baldock and Cllr Hazelton also heard about how all the new homes are being built tenure-blind by Orbit Homes, meaning that both affordable rent and Shared Ownership customers will benefit from the same commitment to Orbit Homes’ sector-leading design, safety and customer service standards.
Orbit Homes also shared more about the energy efficiency features in all 42 homes at Pearson Heights, including Air Source Heat Pump heating systems, underfloor heating and access to electric vehicle charging points, which help offer potential savings towards customers’ energy bills.
Andy Georgiou, Sales and Marketing Director at Orbit Homes, said: “We were delighted to welcome Councillor Baldock and Councillor Hazelton to Pearson Heights for a tour of the site to show them how the development is progressing. We are proud to be delivering these homes in a mix of affordable tenures and we are excited to continue working alongside the council as part of our commitment to building more, much-needed quality and energy efficient affordable homes in the local area.”
Cllr Alan Baldock, leader of Canterbury City Council, added: “I was delighted to visit Pearson Heights alongside Councillor Hazelton. It was great to see first-hand how Orbit Homes is working to deliver more much-needed affordable homes to support our local housing need here in Canterbury, and it was interesting to hear more about the energy efficiency features that residents can benefit from.”
Pearson Heights will deliver new affordable homes in a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments and four-bedroom houses. 13 of the homes will be let at affordable rent, and the remaining 29 are available for purchase through Shared Ownership.
