Brunswick Hub Community Centre wins Leamington Business Award

The Brunswick Hub Community Centre has been announced as the winner of the Charity of the Year category, at the Leamington Business Awards 2022.

The Brunswick Hub, based in Leamington Spa, offers vital support to the local community, and receives funding from Orbit, which provides two Wellbeing Officers to help deliver some of its core services.

The community centre delivers a range of services, focusing on employment and social inclusion, both locally and across Warwickshire. It ensures individuals and families can access the support they need when they need it. The centre prides itself in being able to help members of the local community and no one is excluded or turned away.

A well-established team of Health, Wellbeing and Employment Advisors work with both individuals and groups to achieve a positive outcome and practical way forward.

Since 2015, Orbit has provided funding to help the Brunswick Hub deliver essential services to the community and in 2019, they provided financing for two Wellbeing Officers.

The funding is through Orbit’s ‘Better Days’ offer, which is a free programme to help Orbit customers have a good day, every day. The Brunswick Hub receives money through the ‘Better Place’ strand of the initiative, which supports the development of inclusive, healthy, and sustainable communities, where people are proud to live.

The Wellbeing Officers assist both Orbit customers and members of the local community to help people overcome difficulties and focus on what they can achieve.

Keisha Brown-Greaves, Associate Placemaking and Partnership Manager at Orbit, said: “At Orbit, our vision is to create thriving communities where customers are supported to fulfil their potential, through removing barriers that might be created by worklessness, debt, poor mental health or other social economic issues.

“The funding we provide to the Brunswick Hub Community Centre helps deliver essential services in Leamington Spa, and across the county of Warwickshire. I am delighted that Dawn and the rest of the team have been recognised for the hard work they do in the community and I look forward to seeing what our partnership work can deliver in the future.”

Dawn Johnson-Smith, Centre Manager at the Brunswick Hub, added: “I am overjoyed to win the Leamington Business Award for Charity of the Year. Throughout the pandemic, the hub and our Wellbeing Officers became a lifeline for many families and individuals, providing both practical and emotional support.

“As we start to return to some normality now, the Brunswick Hub is open to welcome members of the Leamington community back through its doors. At the centre, people can expect to be treated with kindness and respect, free from judgement or stigma. I want to thank Orbit for its continued support of the hub, none of this would have been possible without the funding.”
