Life in
Margate

The town centre itself is known for its vintage stores and quaint boutiques. Less than three miles away, Westwood Cross Shopping Centre brings together a number of well-known shops and eateries, as well as a 10-screen cinema. It’s easy to get there by car or on the Thanet Loop bus service.

For even more retail choice, you can reach the 300 high street and designer stores at Bluewater in around an hour by car or an hour and a half by rail. Being close to Margate Station means you can easily take a direct train right into central London to explore the flagship stores in the capital.

You can breathe in the fresh sea air at The Bay, the wide sandy beach that’s one of several in Margate – with more than 15 scattered across the wider area. For traditional seaside entertainment, you could visit Strokes Adventure Golf, the mini golf course overlooking Westbrook Bay. For more active pursuits, you’ll find opportunities to surf or jet ski along the coast, while further inland is the Revolution Skate Park and Climbing Centre.

Mulberry Place stands almost exactly between – and just a few minutes’ walk from – Dane Park and Northdown Park, the latter of which is the former garden of Northdown House. A short drive away, you can explore the wetlands, reed beds and woodlands of the Stodmarsh National Nature Reserve, while Wingham Wildlife Park near Canterbury introduces you to monkeys, wolves, reptiles and big cats and more.

Fittingly enough, this former school makes an excellent choice if you’re thinking about education for your own family, with a number of well-regarded primary schools nearby. One of these is virtually on your doorstep – Cliftonville Primary and Pre-School, given an Ofsted rating of Outstanding in November 2016.
