Orbit, one of the largest developing housing associations in the UK, has launched the build of over 180 new homes in Stratford-upon-Avon.
In a prime location neighbouring the town’s train station, the £40million Arden Quarter development is set to transform the site of the former cattle market into a high-quality residential-led gateway into the market town.
Due to be completed by early 2020, Arden Quarter will provide 87 new apartments and two to four bedroom houses for affordable rent, shared ownership and outright sale, as well as 102 independent living homes for people aged 55-plus.
With the plans including new open space and public amenities, the new development will also offer a pocket park, play area, and retail spaces such as a café and hairdressers alongside the new homes.
Marking a new chapter for the town, Stratford-on-Avon MP, Nadhim Zahawi, and Stratford-upon-Avon Mayor, Cllr Juliet Short joined Orbit to celebrate the launch of Arden Quarter.
Nadhim Zahawi, MP for Stratford-on-Avon, said: “I was delighted to join the Mayor and other representatives from Orbit at the launch of Arden Quarter last Friday.
“It is a great example of sustainable development for our town that will deliver affordable homes and independent living for those aged 55+. As a country we need to build more homes; developments like this make fantastic progress towards that.”
Anthony Holt, head of development at Orbit, said: “Arden Quarter is an important development for both Orbit and Stratford-upon-Avon. With the site having been empty since the close of the cattle market in 2001, we are excited to see its transformation taking shape."
Providing aspirational yet affordable homes for all generations, Arden Quarter will create an inclusive and inviting community in the heart of the town
Works to complete the new roads running through the development will begin in the coming weeks, ahead of construction of the new homes starting in April.
The first homes at Arden Quarter will be available from Autumn 2018. To find out more or to register your interest, please visit www.ardenquarter.co.uk
